The Victorian protected structure converted from apartments to a dwelling for a couple and two children raised issues of conservation, client requirements and servicing. Three bedrooms and study, a workable family area, light and comfort, restoring features and reversing inappropriate modifications were priorities. A modern bathroom was removed allowing light into the stairhall. A contemporary stairs replaced a missing basement stairs. The bedrooms lost in restoring the piano nobile were replaced by adding a return floor and timber bay. The kitchen, family, dining and laudry rooms were accommodated by opening up and extending the basement plan.
Refurbishment and contemporary extension to mid-terraced protected structures.
